 The Compassion Project

What is "The Compassion Project"?

Inspired by the activism of actor Neil Tadkin, "The Compassion Project" serves to promote HIV Awareness; and/or GLBT friendly storylines by encouraging media outlets and soaps to utilize HIV Awareness storylines; to include HIV-positive characters and GLBT characters as recurring, contract, extras and dayplayers in their programming; and to educate and inform the public by their "presence as example".

"The Compassion Project" monitors the presence of these characters and informs those who want to be informed of their presence and progress in the storylines & shows of which they are part.

" ... Until AIDS is Truly Over!"

AIDS FRIENDLY TELEVISION: SERIES or Episodic TV or Miniseries (Incomplete List)

*Denotes shows no longer in production

The shows listed here have all had HIV-Positive characters appear in a storyline or in a multiple-episode story arc. It is important to realize how much television can educate and promote the understanding of societal issues. Frequently, we are reluctant to talk about sexuality issues and are offended when it is brought up in primetime hours. But we need to have these discussions, because education is the best way to stop the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

However, we at “The Compassion Project” applaud the courage of those television shows, and their networks, which risk the loss of income of commercial sales and sponsorships and broadcast episodes that deal with HIV/AIDS. I hope that we as viewers will honor the shows mentioned by viewing them as they are re-broadcast, and/or appear on DVD or video.
